For the second year in a row, the Arizona Senate shot down an attempt to ban texting while driving amid concerns about imposing too much government regulation.
The measure failed Tuesday on an 11-11 preliminary vote. It would have prohibited writing, reading or sending text messages and e-mails while driving on a state highway. It would not have prohibited talking on the phone while driving and would have allowed drivers to type a name or telephone number to make a call.

Once again we have more and more people aware which is good but we need to enforce it… Think back when you were a teen.. did you listen to your parents????? I was driving past the Mn State Capital recently and did see a legislator texting as they pulled out of the parking lot..no joke.. many people were leaving and I saw one hand on the weel and Blackberry in hand… wonder what he voted .. for or against…

I’m wondering if they are sincere in their support of banning email and texting while driving or just being proactive in deflecting any negative press they could receive since they do provide the services. Just my opinion but maybe a few people feel what i’m saying….

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood Announces New Details on Distracted Driving Summit
The U.S. Department of Transportation today announced that it will hold its summit to determine the best ways to reduce the number of crashes and deaths due to distracted driving on Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1.
“Safety is our number one priority,” said LaHood. “As we become a more mobile and wireless nation, we can’t afford to ignore new technology’s impact on roadway safety.”

The city of Miami ,Florida banned texting in school zones while driving. Check the link.. I think this is a great idea.. Heres the scenario.. You’re driving in a school zone right after school lets out and head down>texting and a child darts out from between parked cars… not good to be texting..right… This is a good thing to ban in school zones.. What do you think?
